Holiday Look: Red Statement Coat

J.Crew Red Statement Coat (old) I LOVE this version and this buttoned one (take 25% off with code SHOPNOW)  //  Theory cashmere sweater dress (old) similar style here and in grey here (20% off with code HOLIDAY)  //  Black skinny jeans (take 25% off with code SHOPNOW)  //  Fendi Spy Bag  //  Buffalo check scarf (on sale!)  //  Chanel leather quilted flats  //  Sunnies

On Sunday, I met up with my friend Amanda, and we walked around her Tribeca neighborhood.  Despite the grey skies, it was a perfect lazy shopping day.  We brunched at Locanda Verde, which was delicious.  We both ordered the Uovo Modenese — their take on the classic Eggs Benedict — but the lemon ricotta pancakes looked amazing!  It has great ambiance, and it’s right next door to Robert De Niro’s restaurant, Tribeca Grill.  Check out both spots the next time you’re in NYC!

I also met her adorable goldendoodle puppy, Milly, for the first time.  She reminds me a lot of Lexi — same eyes and looong eyelashes.  It must be the poodle!  Milly was feeling a bit under the weather, so I didn’t snap any pictures to share with you all — next time, girlfriend!

Afterward, we took the subway over to Soho and did some window shopping along the quaint streets.  We popped into the Piperlime store, which is the brand’s first and only storefront.  Everything is so beautifully arranged by color and texture.  One of my favorite color combinations was blush pink and rose gold.  I was seriously inspired, and I can’t wait to try out that color combination with items in my own closet.

Despite the chilly temperature — hellooo, Polar Vortex — I stayed warm in my red wool statement coat, buffalo check plaid scarf, and cozy cashmere sweater dress.  A statement coat in a fun, punchy color is my new go-to in outerwear selection.  I tend to be drawn to solid color tops, and a colorful coat instantly elevates any look.  Plus, it’s cheery, and let’s face it — we ALL need some cheer during the long winter months!

I paired my look with a cashmere sweater dress, which is seriously the coziest thing ever.  I practically live in mine all winter long.  I’m so glad I snagged this one in every color imaginable at the Theory outlet a few years ago at recessionista prices.  If you don’t own one, I suggest checking out one of the links above.  Pair it with leggings or skinny jeans — you’ll thank me later!
